CMS & PUBLISHING

Hugo CMS Write API

Move approved drafts into Hugo content files, then review the generated site.

Hugo publishing is a file-and-build workflow rather than a universal remote article-writing endpoint. Decide how your content source produces markup and metadata, how editors review those files, and which revision becomes the release. Keep the public output distinct from an unreviewed working directory.

Define a front matter contract

Choose the fields your theme actually needs and use the documented locations for custom parameters. Keep publication decisions and source creation times distinct. Use stable paths and validate that required image references point to included assets.

Review the generated artifact

Inspect the article, listing, taxonomy pages, and feed after building. Test a draft that should remain unpublished under your production configuration. A source file with reasonable-looking metadata is not proof that every output includes or excludes it correctly.

Accept the pipeline when

The build comes from a known revision, every public link works, and an editor can understand errors without reverse-engineering the templates. Keep a representative article fixture for future changes.
