Writing Agents & Review Gates

Plan a bounded writing agent that hands decisions back to a reviewer.

A writing agent can be designed to move through a defined sequence of tasks, but more steps do not automatically create better content. Name the agent’s permitted actions, available sources, and stop conditions. A useful first design prepares a draft and review notes without granting authority to publish it.

Give each stage a narrow responsibility

Separate planning, drafting, structural validation, and editorial review. Keep source material labeled as data rather than instructions. Limit destinations and operations to an explicit allowlist in your implementation. A request to write an article should not imply permission to alter unrelated files or send messages.

Build a clear stop-and-review path

Stop when sources conflict, required evidence is missing, an action needs approval, or a tool returns an uncertain result. Save enough context for a person to continue. Do not let repeated retries hide the original problem or turn one intended publication into several copies.

Accept the agent workflow when

You can explain each allowed action, inspect the draft’s evidence trail, and test the stopping rules. Start with draft-only operations and keep the final release attached to a named human decision.
